What's your current food obsession?
Ever since I was seven, my favorite food has been sushi, and it hasn't changed since then! I can have sushi any time of the day or any day of the week. I can remember being addicted to it that young — I think my mom introduced me to it. My favorite sushi restaurant in the bay area is Kamakura, and now that I live here in Oakland, Ginza at Jack London Square is really good. Smoked salmon with avocado in a roll is my favorite.
Tell us about the most the important day of your life.
The most important day in my life was having my daughter Hendrix, who's 2 1/2 now. She's really fun and she's already a fashionista — she loves picking out all her own clothes. She loves Amy Winehouse and Tom Petty. She's like a little version of me. She's such a sweet person — she loves people and dogs, and she's my best friend.
On the name Hendrix for her daughter:
My husband and I initially wanted a boy and liked names with Xs in them. We chose the name Hendrix, and although we are not huge Jimi fans, we do think he is a cool dude. When we found out we were having a girl we decided to keep the name, and she totally lives up to it!
Who do you look up to?
I really look up to my husband because he's very disciplined and such a good person. He has a really big heart, and I really admire who he is. Every day I'm just so happy to be with him and to know that I'm married to such a good person. Because I was definitely a sneak growing up! Kind of a bad girl! He's my little Midwestern boy. There's just the little things he does — you know the homeless people that sell newspapers? He always buys papers from them and is extra nice to them. He's very genuine about it — it's not fake at all. He's also a high school teacher. He's at Richmond High School — he's been there for five years and even though it's a terrible school district, he just loves the kids.
